Transport Malta said that it will be installing barricades on the central strip of National Road, Floriana, to encourage people use the underground passage to cross the road. TM said in a statement that despite the underground passage, many persons choose to dangerously cross a number of lanes. It added that works for the installation of the barricades start this evening and will continue during the week, between 8.00 pm and 3.00 am each night, in order to reduce inconvenience. However, it said that the road will not be closed.
Transport Malta said that this intervention is aimed at reducing the risk of accidents in one of the most busy roads in Malta. Workers, it said, are daily cleaning the underground, while the Ministry has mounted security cameras to improve safety for those using it. It encouraged drivers to drive attentively and respect the traffic signs and instructions of officers on site for the safety of workers.
