100 French women state it is not an abuse when a man tries to attract the interest of a woman

The Hollywood controversy regarding alleged cases of sexual harassment has taken a further complicated turn with veteran French actress Catherine Deneuve and 99 other French women publishing a letter stating this is a development which they called ‘a crusade against men.’

The letter states that extreme attitudes are uncalled for and although they were against all forms of sexual harassment, instances when a man is trying to engage the interest of a woman cannot be classed as an abuse.

The letter was published against a background where consultations are taking place in France for new legislation against sexual harassment and rape.
