Eleven bays in Malta and Gozo given Blue Flag status – Covid measures taken praised
Eleven swimming bays in Malta and Gozo have received a Blue Flag status for the coming summer with this time round the jury also basing judgement on measures taken by a country to restrict the pandemic spread.
The Foundation for Environmental Education – FEE in Copenhagen noted that Malta and Gozo have properly followed restrictions to ensure the health and safety of those who visit swim bays.
Inspections will be carried out on these Blue Flag Bays during summer for observers inspect and to present their observations to the jury for the coming year.
The Blue Flag Bays are Fond Għadir in Sliema; the Westin Dragonara Beach Resort at St Julian’s; St George’s Bay in Paceville; Qawra Rock Beach; Buġibba Perched Beach; Għadira Bay at Mellieha; Golden Sands Bay and Għajn Tuffieħa Bay. In Gozo, the bays are Ramla l-Ħamra in Xagħra, Ħondoq ir-Rummien at Qala and Marsalforn Bay.
Blue Flag International urged Malta to consider applying for this status also to marinas that todate are not Blue Flag classified.
