150 children reported missing have been rescued in major operation in Tennessee

Some 150 boys and girls who had been reported missing in the state of Tennessee in the US were rescued in a joint operation between the forces of law and order and social services.

The operation, called Volunteer Strong, was carried out over a two-month period, with the rescued children’s ages ranging between three and 17 years. Some of the children had left home and were living with other members of the family, and others were victims of kidnapping, trafficking or abuse.

The number of rescued children is among the highest in this kind of operation in one single state. The search continues for another 90 children still reported missing.
