16th edition of ‘Oħloq Tbissima’ marathon underway

The 16th edition of the charity marathon ‘Oħloq Tbissima’ is currently underway at the Dar San Gużepp in Santa Venera, with 60 hours of broadcasting on TVM2, among other stations. This year the marathon will commemorate the 50th anniversary of missionary work by the Missionary Society of St Paul in Peru.

The anniversary is also being celebrated by a documentary which shows the assistance the Maltese people provide to this mission. The director of ‘Ċentru Animazzjoni Missjunarja’, Fr Louis Mallia, recalled the mission’s work during the years during which communities are by education, health and clinics and other different levels. Today, MSSP has eight large communities with a population of 300,000 people.

Funds raised during the Oħloq Tbissima marathon will also go to missions in the Philippines and Pakistan and in aid of Dar San Ġużepp.

During the marathon inauguration on Friday, Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna thanked the missionaries and their families, while describing missionaries as a beautiful example of what a disciple of Christ is.

President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca praised the society’s work which is spread around the world and encouraged more youths to follow the example of those who, during the summer holidays, undergo voluntary work in missions abroad.

Oħloq Tbissima marathon ends on Sunday.
