18 lose their lives in heavy storms in southern United States

In the US, at least 18 people lost their lives during heavy storms over the last 48 hours which have hit the country’s southern states.

Many people were injured by the hurricane which hit Georgia and Mississippi. The hurricane, which caused winds of more than 218 kms per hour, left devastation in its wake, demolishing almost 500 homes. 14 people lost their lives in Georgia, while another four died in Mississippi. A state of emergency was declared in Georgia, while the authorities issued warnings to the public to seek shelter in a safe place until the storm passes.
