22 fireworks factories join forces for fireworks festival

14 Local Councils which form part of the Southern Region have shared out between them the sum of 18,000 euro given by the Region for projects relating to embellishment, street furniture, regeneration of gardens and new lighting systems, among others. The President of the Southern Region, Jesmond Aquilina, , stated that these funds have not been distributed according to the size of the locality, but each Council has been allocated the same amount.

Parliamentary Secretary Silvio Parnis stated that over the next seven years, Government wants all localities to be in a state of excellence. Mr Parnis added that reform of the regions lays down that the Region’s President cannot be a Mayor, thus allowing the President to focus on his duties.

Minister Owen Bonnici announced that the fifth edition of the fireworks festival organised by the Southern Region will be held on 10 and 11 May.  Dr Bonnici stated that 22 fireworks factories will take part in this festival, which is being held in Birzebbugia and Imqabba.
