4 and a half years jail for man found guilty of drug charges

A Syrian man, aged 26, was condemned to 4 years and six months in jail after he was found guilty of being in possession of a plant and cannabis resin in circumstances which show they were not for his exclusive use. He is also a relapser.

The man, AlnaFouri Mohamad Nour, also has to pay a fine of €5,000.

The Court, presided over by Magistrate Neville Camilleri, ordered AlnaFouri Mohamad Nour to pay all the Court expenses which amount to €4,337, within a year, and to destroy the drugs and everything related to them.

From the evidence presented in Court, it emerged that on 14 March 2014, the man was seen hiding a basket behind a wall in a field in Triq il-Gejża, Swieqi which contained drugs.

The Police, following a request by the Duty Magisrate, retrieved the bag and after putting rags in it, put it back in the same place. The next day the Police saw the Syrian man collecting the bag and walking towards the building where he lived

The Police arrested him and carried out a search in the apartment, where they seized more drugs.
