Five dead after hostage situation in a South African church

Five persons were killed in a violent incident in a church in South Africa following an argument regarding the management of the church.

Police said they had rescued men, women and children who were being as hostages in the church on the periphery of Johannesburg.

In all 40 persons were arrested while Police seized a number of armaments.

Witnesses said that a group of men had entered the Christian Pentecostal Church, part of a clique that were militating against the church leadership.

It is being reported the church leadership had been a source of litigation since 2016 when its former leader had died.
