50 persons killed in explosions near a Kabul school

In Afganistan, the number of victims of Saturday’s explosions near a secondary school in Kabul have risen to 50, with over another 100 persons injured.

The explosions occurred as students were exiting the school. Photos uploaded on the social media show a number of schoolbags abandoned on the road. A Ministry of Education spokeswoman said that many of the victims are schoolgirls.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack in an area which is frequently targeted by Sunni militants. Afghan officials accused the Taliban militants, who denied any involvement.

It appears that the explosions were triggered through a car bomb and an explosive equipment assembled in the area.
