50 roads will be rebuilt in Gozo.

Gozo Minister, Justyne Caruana, announced details of what is being called “Proġett Għawdex” that involves the building of fifty roads, the majority are residential ones.

During a visit at Triq il-Ħamrija in Xewkija, which is being rebuilt, Minister Caruana said that works are underway on roads around the whole island, while tenders were issued for works on others including Triq l-Imgħallem and Triq ta’ Wara s-Sur in Rabat and Triq iż-Żewwieqa in Qala. These roads, she added, were selected following a consultation process with Gozitan local councils so that priority will be given to the needs they identified.

Dr Caruana stated that the rebuilding of roads does not include the tarmac works, but also foundations building, changing or introduction of services and more accessible pavements. An exercise on traffic management is also underway. Minister Caruana said that “Progett Għawdex” is another pledge made by the Government to address residential and arterial roads, while other details will be given in the future on the rebuilding of other roads.
