UPDATED: Pregnant woman loses baby following collision at ‘Telgħa t’Alla u Ommu’

There was a tragic consequence following a serious collision between a car and a truck in Naxxar yesterday afternoon when a pregnant woman, 27, from Belarus, lost her baby as a result of the heavy impact between the two vehicles. They were both heading towards Naxxar when the car collided with the rear of the truck.

The accident occurred at around 6pm at Triq Margaret Murray, better known as ‘it-Telgħa t’Alla u Ommu’, between a Daf truck, driven by a 55-year old Fgura man, and an Alfa Romeo driven by a 36-year old Belarus man who lives in Mosta. Riding with the him were two female passengers, aged 26 and 27, and a six-year-old girl, all from Belarus.

In a statement, the police said that members of the Civil Protection Department as well as a medical team arrived on site, while the road was closed to traffic for some time.

The two drivers were not injured while the women and the little girl were certified to have sustained serious injuries. It is understood that the 27-year-old woman was 7 months pregnant and although doctors did everything they could to save the baby, unfortunately, it was born stillborn this morning. The woman is still in intensive care.

An inquiry has been opened by the Duty Magistrate.
