Accomplice sentenced to two and half years prison for rape of young man at Floriana Mall
An Egyptian national was sentenced to two and a half years in prison after he pleaded guilty to helping his friend rape a young Philippine man at the Mall in Floriana. He also pleaded guilty to violently robbing the young man, stealing his cash and mobile.
The case goes back to 31 August 2015 when the polide received a call for help from the public gardens at the Mall. When they arrived on site they found a young man of Philippine nationality who told them that two Arab man had attacked him with a knife and robbed him.
He said that he began to shout, and as a result of the confusion which arose, one of the aggressors dropped his mobile. It was by means of this mobile that the two Egyptian men were identified.
It was only later that the young man said that on that night he had also been raped by the two Egyptian men.
Helmy Mohammed Helmay Elmosaty, 26, at first denied that at around 11pm of that night he was an accomplice, when he helped Ramy Gamal Elasrag, 35, violently rape the Philippine man.
However, he pleaded guilty to the charges later on during the proceedings. At the time of the crime Elmosaty was living in Marsaxlokk and was unemployed.
