Accused of wilful damage to property while drunk in Paceville

Two men were released on bail on condition that they do not return to Paceville on charges of wilful damage to property in excess of €2,500. The incident occurred on Saturday 1 August while the men were intoxicated in Paceville.

Bashar Sheick Ahmed Antar, 19, and Yusef Khalef Sheh Ahmed Halad, 28, who are Syrians living in Swatar, pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. The Syrians told the Court that they worked in the construction industry.

The prosecution did not object to their release from custody provided restrictions were imposed on the accused not to approach Paceville.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Victor Axiaq, released them on condition that they do not leave the house between 8.00pm and 7.00am, and that twice a week they report to the St. Julian’s police station to sign the police register.

They were also bound by a deposit of € 1,000 and a personal guarantee of € 4,000.
