Adrian Delia says he is worried about state of the environment

The PN Leader Adrian Delia said that he is worried about the state of the environment. Speaking during a meeting with representatives of Din l-Art Ħelwa yesterday, Dr Delia said that the increased development is contributing to an increase in the generation of waste.

He said that he does not believe that the environment should be the victim of Malta’s success. Dr Delia said that in Malta there are 1,005 people living in every square kilometre and despite this heavy density, the Government wants the population to increase between 13,000 to 15,000 people per year.

The President of Din l-Art Ħelwa, Prof Alex Torpiano said that among his concerns there should also be the impact of the tunnel between Malta and Gozo. He said that Din l-Art Ħelwa did not take a position against the tunnel, but it is against the fact that politicians are deciding for the people.  He mentioned the organisation’s concerns are over the impact of the tunnel on traffic, the countryside which the tunnel will have to pass through to be built, and for Gozo.
