Agreement by Government to assist domestic violence victims at Dar Tereża Spinelli

Another agreement, worth €560,000 for three years, was signed between the Government and the Fondazzjoni Suret il-Bniedem which will provide shelter to domestic violence victims.

Fr Carmelo Aquilina said that Dar Tereża Spinelli in Valletta, which is run by the Capuchin Friars Order, is currently receiving 15 persons who seek shelter after becoming homeless. He stated that, apart from Dar Spinelli, Fondazzjoni Suret il-Bniedem runs three other homes, including Dar San Leonardo in Gżira for homeless men. The plan is that another home is opened in Gozo in the coming months.

During the signing of the agreement, Social Solidarity Minister Michael Falzon said that the Government is currently forging out some €17 million to assist non-government organisations in their social sector work. He added that there are currently 48 signed agreements and that operations by organisations offering social services is wholly financed by the Government.
