Agreement for Government’s 870-vehicle fleet to change over to electric power

An agreement was signed this morning for a study for the Government to change its fleet to electric-powered vehicles.

During a media conference Principal Permanent Secretary Mario Cutajar stated that the government has 870 vehicles, of which only 60 are electric-powered.

Mr Cutajar added that whilst only 2% of vehicles in Malta are electric-powered or hybrid, the Government has 7% of its vehicles that are electric-powered, which is higher than the national figure.

Mr Cutajar stated that this initiative by Government is a system of carpooling between staff, remote working by staff which will continue to reduce traffic, and one-stop shops offering the services of servizz.gov.

Mr Cutajar also mentioned that the Government’s vision is to reduce bureaucracy as well as the use of paper, whilst changing over to digital.
