Alternattiva Demokratika says time has come for convention on Constitution

Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson Carmel Cacopardo says Alternattiva Demokratika feels the time has come to launch a convention on the Constitution, which has been promised for years, and to get together all parties, and not just the parties represented in Parliament.

Cacopardo added that Alternattiva Demokratika would be contacting the Prime Minister and the Opposition leader to ask for a meeting with them in order to start the process.

The Chairperson stated that Alternattiva Demokratika has noted the negative climate which has developed following the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia. He added that whilst he understood that Malta was going through shock, the country cannot continue being tarnished by mudslinging and accusations by political sectors, which are leading to damage to Malta’s international reputation and undermining of already weakened institutions.

The Chairperson said that AD feels Malta has two important priorities: to apprehend whoever carried out this crime, and to launch a serious attempt to carry out Constitutional reform.
