Amnesty International : 18,000 persons killed in Syrian prisons in four years

A report published by the human rights organisation, Amnesty International, says that some 18,000 people died under the custody of the Syrian Government. Amnesty International alleged that the persons were killed between March 2011 and December 2015 after being tortured and women raped in prisons.

The organisation is calling on the international community to exert pressure on the Syrian Government to end torture against opponents. It is estimated that an average of 10 persons are killed every day or more than 300 every month, Amnesty International said.
