Another request for bail for three men charged with murder of Caruana Galizia has been denied
The Court has denied another request for bail for the three men who are charged with the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. The requests for bail were made last week in front of Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit. Brothers Alfred and George Degiorgio together with Vince Muscat, have been held under arrest since 4 December of last year. Another request for bail was made in April, which was also turned down by Magistrate Stafrace Zammit, who has already declared that there is enough evidence for the three men to be charged with the murder.
When she turned down the second request for bail, Magistrate Stafrace Zammit said that the three men have had several brushes with the law, and in a serious case like this one, if they are released, they will not think twice to flee the country. She expressed her concerns because she said that the crime for which they are being accused, the murder of Mrs Caruana Galizia, closely resembles Mafia-style executions, and the Court is also duty-bound to protect society from the concerns which may arise if one accepts a request for bail.
