Deputy PM and Health Minister Chris Fearne has confirmed that there will be two new swab testing centres set up in Qormi and Burmarrad. Speaking on the Church’s radio station, he said that the centres will further strengthen the country’s capacity to carry out more swab tests.
The swab test centres are presently sited in Ħal Luqa, Pembroke, Mater Dei Hospital and Gozo. These four centres have a total capacity to analyse 2,000 swab tests daily, and Deputy Prime Minister Fearne stated he would like this capacity to go up to 2,500 tests daily.
In this situation, it was also announced this week that with effect from next week eight new scientists will be added to the laboratories complement to keep pace with the need for more tests.
