Elderly man seriously injured during an argument in front of the Great Siege Monument

Police are investigating an incident that happened in Valletta this afternoon. In the incident an 81-year-old man from Valletta was seriously injured after he fell during what appears to have been an argument near the Court.

The argument appears to have developed between a group of about ten people who were placing flowers and candles at the base of the Great Siege Monument just a few hours after it had been re-opened following restoration works.

At about 3.45pm an argument appears to have developed between the group and the elderly man who was accompanied by another elderly 73-year-old man from Valletta.

The 81-year-old man was conveyed to hospital and detained for treatment. The incident is being investigated by Valletta District Police.
