WATCH: PM says the Presidential Pardon for Vince Muscat will be published
Prime Minister Robert Abela said that developments over the last few hours are a confirmation that the country’s institutions are strong and are working to produce positive results. The PM was addressing a media conference this evening on the latest developments of the case of the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia when Vince Muscat admitted to the murder and was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment while three other persons were arrested.
He said that the fact that a person has admitted to the murder and has been sentenced by the Court is a further step to the attainment of Justice in the murder of Caruana Galizia.
The PM confirmed that yesterday his Cabinet had accepted the joint advice of the Commissioner for Police and the Advocate General and today the President had signed the Pardon Proclamation under a number of various conditions. In response to media questions, Prime Minister Abela said he is to request that the term of the Proclamation be made public.
He said that following the arrests of more persons the Police are intensifying their activities and investigations into the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia and maintained the Government is committed to continue giving help to institutions.
Meanwhile, the Leader of the Opposition and the Nationalist Party, Bernard Grech, maintained the country has suffered a lot because of the murder and all should ensure the whole truth emerges.
ADPD Chairperson Carmel Cacopardo welcomed the latest development and augured that all those involved in the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia be brought to justice.
In a reaction the family of Daphne Caruana Galizia expressed the hope that this step will enable the accomplishment of justice regarding the murder of the journalist on 16th October, 2017.
