WATCH: Huge explosion in The Lebanon – hundreds trapped in debris of their homes

In The Lebanon, an enormous explosion in Beirut has caused wholesale destruction. The Ministry for Health said many persons were wounded and ten persons have been confirmed to have died but this number is expected to increase as hundreds of people have been trapped in the debris of their homes.

Videos that have been posted show persons trapped under debris with news agency REUTERS stating that ten persons have been rescued from the debris.

The cause of the explosion has not been ascertained but reports are stating the explosion may have been caused by stored fireworks.

The explosion happened three days before the verdict that was to be delivered on the case of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in 2005.

Four members of Hezbollah are accused of having killed Hariri as the result of a car bomb, although they have denied accusations.
