Victims of criminal acts should be given priority – Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà
Speaking during a ceremony in which 50 Police Constables were promoted to the rank of Sergeants, Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa said that priority should be shown to the victims of crime. He said these should be treated with empathy and by putting oneself in their shoes at that moment in time, one had to imagine and understand what they are going through.
Commissioner Gafa said he felt pride that a third of those being promoted were females and this shows that the Police Corps is staffed with persons not merely to supply them with a salary but also to increase their career prospects.
He said this is the moment of truth when knowledge gained during the course will be implemented to show leadership capabilities in being able to unite a team, to motivate and to show vision.
The Commissioner said they will now engage as Sergeants in various districts where they will have to develop concepts of partnership.
The ceremony took place at Police HQ in Floriana and was presided by the Minister for Internal Affairs, National Security and Law Enforcement, Byron Camilleri and Commissioner Gafa.
In all 34 males and 16 females were promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Minister Byron Camilleri told the new Sergeants that when they engaged in the Police Corps they had taken an oath to be of service to the country and the community and as from today they will start on a new path during a period of transformation in the Corps. He said the Government promises to continue with its investment in the Corps.
