Chairman of Pilatus Bank arrested in US for breaching sanctions against Iran

It is being reported that the Chairman of Pilatus Bank Ali Sadr Hasheminejad, was arrested in Virginia, in the US.

He is being accused of taking part in a scheme which evades the sanctions placed by the US against Iran and of taking in  $115 million paid by a construction company.

Hasheminejad, 38, who is of Iranian nationality, is facing six counts of charges by the Federal Court in Manhattan. According to international reports, Sadr was arrested on Monday.

The prosecutors are saying that Sadr’s family, which controls the Iranian Stratus Group, had a project which consists of building thousands of places for accommodation in Venezuela.

This project was carried out after various agreements between Iran and Venezuela in 2004 which concern cooperation between the two governments.
