A number of persons who were being detained at the Ħal Far Detention Centre were arrested earlier today after some trouble developed, with the migrants allegedly demanding they be freed.
The Police stated that a protest had been started during the night hours but in time this did not remain a peaceful one, and the Police authorities were called out to assist at about 11.15 a.m. as it was reported that some migrants were causing damage.
A TVM crew on site could observe the presence of District Police officers as well as officers from the immigration section and anti-riot squad, together with the RIU. A number of ambulances were also dispatched to the scene, but it was later confirmed that no one had been injured.
Several migrants were seen being handcuffed by the Police. It is understood they were involved in the rioting. The Police stated they had arrested 11 persons, and TVM is informed they will be arraigned in Court in the coming days.
