For the first time since the pandemic emerged in the United States, President Donald Trump wore a mask in public. He was visiting the Walter Reed military hospital, outside Washington, where he met with wounded soldiers and their carers.
Speaking after emerging from the White House, Trump said he had nothing against masks and felt the need to wear one because it was an opportune time.
Trump had previously made fun of mask wearing and also ridiculed his rival Joe Biden for wearing a mask.
However, speaking to journalists, the President said he felt he should show respect towards wounded soldiers and wear the mask because they are vulnerable persons.
