Avoids six months in prison for heated argument on parking incident

A man who was imprisoned for six months had his sentence suspended by the Appeals Court after it reviewed all the circumstances of his life.

23-year old Kenward Jake Bonello was accused of grievously injuring 69-year old Godfrey Grech during a street argument in Cospicua four years ago.

The argument allegedly started on vehicle parking, with the Court of Appeal remarking that, after it saw the Social Inquiry Report, it understood why Bonello passed from a discussion stage to anger and eventually violence.

The Court considered Bonello’s good criminal record, except for a case of driving without a licence which occurred after the argument case.

The Court further considered that Bonello life’s circumstance were not easy to be overcome, however he not only managed to do this but also assumed duties in his life which go beyond normality.

Presiding Judge Giovanni Grixti therefore suspended the six-month prison sentence for a period of two years.
