American President Joe Biden became the first U.S. President to describe the massacre of thousands of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire in 1915 as a genocide.
He made the declaration on the 106th anniversary of the massacre.
The genocide recognition was met with anger among Turks. Althogh Turkey recognizes the Armenian atrocities, it always refused to call the massacre as a genocide.
The Turkish Foreign Affairs Ministry expressed its anger on Biden’s comment, saying they will not be given any lesson by anyone on their history. It added that Biden opened an irreparable wound in relations between the two countries.
