Boris Johnson notifies Queen Elizabeth about formal dissolution of Parliament

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson this morning met with Queen Elizabeth II in a private audience at Buckingham Palace, to advise Her Majesty of the formal dissolution of Parliament.

This signifies the official start of the electoral campaign leading to a general election on 12 December.

The main parties are expected to launch their campaigns during the day, with Johnson’s Conservatives expected to campaign for implementing Brexit, and the Labour Party leader expected to promise to implement a change.
