Bought a car 11 years ago? Check whether you are entitled to a one-time grant

Owners of vehicles that were registered and licensed for personal use between 1 January and 31 December 2008 can apply for a one time tax-refund grant.

Anyone who is eligible for this scheme has already been notified by Transport Malta, and in fact from a total of 6300 applicants, the Authority has received 5,000 applications.

As announced in the last Budget, the Government will refund owners who registered their vehicles 11 years ago, a sum equal to the amount of VAT paid on registration tax.

In a statement, Transport Malta reminded those that still have not applied, to do so by the 26 April (4 more days) in order not to lose the chance to receive this one-time payment by cheque, which is being sent to eligible vehicle owners at the address indicated on the application form.

Owners of vehicles that were registered between 1 May 2004 and 31 December 2008 and who are eligible for the scheme but who have not yet applied may still submit an application form (from Transport Malta) until 26 April.

This year a total of 6,300 applications will be processed at a total expenditure of € 4.9 million.
