Boy who drowned in Engish channel washes up in Norway; body to be repatriated to Iran for burial
Norwegian police have announced that the body found on the country’s coast on January 1 was that of a 15-month-old boy who, along with family members, drowned in the English channel last October.
The boy, who was named Artin, drowned with his parents Rasoul and Shiva, 35, as well as his brother Anita, nine, and Armin, six.
There were about 15 other rescued immigrants on the boat who were also Kurds living in Iran.
The family left the city of Sardasht, located in Iran on the border with Iraq, and was on their way to England from France when the tragedy occurred.
The boy’s body was identified by a DNA test after samples were taken from other relatives and will be sent back to Iran for burial.
