Brazil registers record number of deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours

Over the last 24 hours Brazil has registered the highest number of deaths so far – 1,179.  In this country, almost 18,000 deaths were linked to Covid-19.

Brazil to date has the third highest rate of infections in the world with a total of 271,885. Over the last 24 hours alone, 17,408 new cases were reported.

Observers are saying that the country will not reach its peak of cases before June.

Brazil is divided over how to address the pandemic.

President Jair Bolsonaro has repeatedly tried to give the impression that the virus is not serious and argued that the lockdown implemented by regional governors will cause more damage to the economy and the people than the virus itself.
