British Royal Family series, The Crown, wins Emmy Award for best drama

A drama series centred on the British Royal Family, The Crown, won the best drama series award in the 73rd edition of the Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.

The Sunday evening ceremony was dominated by awards to British talent and female directors.

The Crown, together with Netflix other series The Queen’s Gambit, won eleven awards each.

Olivia Coleman won the category of best drama actress for her role as Queen Elizabeth II. She was among the seven British actors who won awards. “I loved every second of it, and I can’t wait to see what happens next. And I’m going to be very quick because I’m very teary, as I wish my dad was here to see this.”

Another successful series was Ted Lasso, transmitted on Apple TV, which won the award for best comedy. The series centres on an American football coach, interpreted by Jason Sudeikis who won best actor, while Hannah Waddingham won best actress in a secondary role and Brett Goldstein also best actor in a secondary role.

Actress Kate Winslet won best actress for a limited series with The Mare of Easttown, while actors Evan Peters and Julianne Nicholson won best actors in secondary roles.

Other award-winning actresses at the Emmy Awards were American Lucia Aniello and New Zealand’s Jessica Hobbs, who won best directors in the seriew Hacks and The Crown.
