Covid-19
Half of Maltese adults have received first dose of vaccine

Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister, Chris Fearne, announced that half of the Maltese population will be inoculated by the first dose of the vaccine by today.

He told a press conference that the pandemic is under control in the country, and that successful measures are in place when compared with what is happening around the world.

Dr Fearne stated that good decisions taken in recent weeks have been eased because new Covid cases continued in a downward trend and did not rise again. This means, he added, that tomorrow will see the removal of measures announced in the past weeks. He also announced that visits to Mater Dei and Mt Carmel will resume from tomorrow.

He said that if numbers remain low, the measures announced today, including the opening of restaurants till 5.00pm, will be introduced.

Till today, 315,000 vaccine doses were administered, while 100,000 received the second dose. This means that half of adults have been vaccinated, a figure which places Malta first among all European countries.
