Canadian Prime Minister harshly criticised for blackface photo at party

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a public apology for wearing blackface makeup during a costume party 18 years ago.

The photo, published in Time Magazine a few weeks before the election, shows Prime Minister Trudeau with his face painted and wearing a turban during a reception in a private school. He told journalists that he was dressed in Aladdin costume and admitted that the photo was racist, repented and said he shouldn’t have acted that way.

The photograph was harshly criticised by Trudeau’s political opponents, while the Canadian National Council of Muslims expressed its sadness with the photo and said the blackface is unacceptable.
