Cardinal George Pell wins appeal and is acquitted

Cardinal George Pell was released from prison after winning his appeal when the Australian High Court overturned his sentence.

In 2018, the 78-year-old former Vatican treasurer was found guilty of abusing two 13-year-old boys in Melbourne back in the 1990s. Last year he was sentenced to six years in prison.

However, the High Court of Australia overruled this judgment immediately when it found that the jury had not properly considered all the evidence that had been presented.

From the very beginning, back in 2017, when he was charged by the Police, Pell has always maintained his innocence.

His case had shocked the Church not least because Pell had a very important role in the Church and was even advisor to the Pope, among other roles and duties.
