China plans to eliminate single-use plastics

China, which is one of the countries which uses the most plastics, has announced a plan to reduce the use of single-use plastics.

Non-degradable bags will be banned in major cities by the end of this year and in all towns and villages by 2022.  By the end of 2020, no restaurants will be allowed to use plastic straws.

China has long been battling to try and dispose of the waste generated by its 1.4 billion citizens. In fact, the largest landfill in the country which is as large as 100 football grounds is already full, 25 years before it was intended to.
