Controversy over Iranian oil tanker continues

The controversy continues over the Iranian oil tanker which was seized by Gibraltar in July because of suspicions that it was carrying oil to Syria.

The ship has now left Gibraltar despite the controversy with the US which wanted the ship to be prevented from continuing its journey. The ship is now on its was to Kalamata in Greece. The authorities in Gibraltar said that they they cannot hold the ship because American sanctions against Iran do not apply to the EU.

On the other hand, Iran said that if the ship continued to be detained it would send a military escort for the ship to continue its journeyl as planned.
