UPDATED: Man found dead near Comino has been identified

A day that began with two brothers who spent the day fishing in Comino ended in tragedy for a family from Mosta.

The corpse of Dennis Falzon, 67, known in Mosta as “Frixa” was recovered from the sea after the man in question fell from the rocks.

The Police were informed on Saturday evening, at around 10.50, that a body of a person was seen at sea near the Comino reef.

Gozo district police informed the Armed Forces who started a search in the area through a patrol boat and a helicopter. The rough seas caused the search to be suspended overnight.

At approximately 10.00am on Sunday morning, the man’s corpse was discovered and was brought to Mgarr Harbor in Gozo.

An inquiry was launched with Duty Magistrate Paul Coppini appointing several experts to assist in the inquiry. The corpse was taken to the mortuary of the Gozo General Hospital, where an autopsy is expected to be held during the day on Monday.

Police investigations are still ongoing.
