Covid-19 tests on migrants aboard Captain Morgan vessel

Public Health Superintendent Professor Charmaine Gauci has stated that swab tests are being carried out on the migrants aboard the Captain Morgan vessel.

The Superintendent added that tests have already been carried out on the first group transferred to the vessel, and on Saturday evening the Maltese health authorities carried out tests on the rest of the migrants who had been transferred to the vessel at a later stage.

Professor Gauci said the authorities want to provide the necessary treatment for everyone, and the tests are being examined at the Mater Dei laboratory, to enable the authorities to ensure the virus is not present among this group.

The Superintendent pointed out that the migrants are together in a restricted space, and it is important that if a case of Covid-19 surfaces, the authorities will identify it immediately.

Professor Gauci further stated that tests were also carried out on the vulnerable migrants who have been brought to Malta, and to date, these have all resulted negative.
