Customs officers at the airport have seized some €19,000 in cash money that was not declared during a routine control operation at the departure lounge.
A Maltese woman who was about to take a flight to Istanbul was requested to declare if she was carrying money, and replied she had €26,000. When a search was held on her personal belongings another €3,200 were found.
According to law requirements, €10,000 of the money were handed back to the woman – an amount which is the limit of cash that a passenger may carry in such circumstances.
The woman is expected to be arraigned in Court for failing to declare all the money she carried.
