Daughter of Huawei company founder arrested

The daughter of the founder of the Chinese telecommunications company Huawei has been arrested in Canada, and will be extradited to the US.

Meng Wanzhou, who is the Deputy Chairperson of the company, was arrested in Vancouver on 1 December. No details were given about the arrest, but the US had been investigating Huawei about the possibility of breaking of sanctions against Iran.

The Chinese Embassy in Canada has protested about this arrest, and has asked for Wanzhou to be released. Huawei has stated it has little or no knowledge of the charges, and has not been notified about what Meng could have done.
