Death of environmentalist Joe Sultana

The death has been announced of environmentalist Joe Sultana at the age of 78.

Born in Xaghra, Sultana had been a pro-environment activist, both with BirdLife as Chairman and also for a time as President of the Malta Ornithological Society, besides occupying various other posts in public entities and with Maltese and foreign NGOs.

Sultana had published a number of books and reports in both Maltese and foreign environmental publications about birds and their conservation. He had also produced a television series about environmental conservation and birds.

Sultana had also won prestigious awards in Holland and the UK for his efforts towards bird conservation.

Joe Sultana had been married to Lucy.
