Detained under arrest after assaulting ex-wife in misunderstanding over daughter

37-year-old Christopher Micallef has been detained under arrest after being arraigned in Court and charged with insulting, assaulting and threatening the mother of his daughter and another man, as well as with causing slight injuries to the latter.

Micallef was also charged with having, through his behaviour, caused both persons to fear the use of violence against them, and with having made wrong use of communications equipment.

Micallef was further charged with breaching bail conditions, contravening a protection order and becoming a relapser.

Defence Counsel Ramon Bonnici Sladden asked for bail, stating that accused is being continuously denied access to his daughter.

The Court, Magistrate Joe Mifsud presiding, stated that certain measures by the Family Court have to be taken, adding that lawyers have to assume responsibility as cases in the Family Court take their time.

Magistrate Mifsud further stated that all this has an effect on the children who end up being bullied at school, as it is sometimes the mother who ends up in Court, and at other times the father, and the school bag ends up in either one home or another.

The Court denied the request for bail.
