UPDATED: Gazebos allowed, but have to be 1.5m from shore

A notice placed on the Mellieħa waterfront, in the Tunnara area, advises that barbecues and tents are not permitted.

For several bathers, however, this notice seemed non-existent, as a large number of gazebos were set up along the waterfront, as can be seen in this photograph.

Meanwhile TVM confirmed that the current by-law makes a distinction between gazebos and tents. Gazebos are allowed, as long as they are 1.5 metres away from the shore.

Sources close to the police told TVM that spot checks are conducted in this area regularly.
