“Do not fear” – Pope Francis message during Easter Vigil

Pope Francis encouraged people “not to be afraid and surrender to fear” due to the coronavirus, while calling on them to be “messengers of life at a time of death”.

The Head of the Catholic Church delivered the message on Easter Saturday evening at St Peter’s Basilica, which was almost empty. Catholics around the world following the Easter Vigil celebration online.

Italy is still under lockdown strict measures to control the coronavirus spread. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte praised the Pope for his responsible gesture by celebrating Easter in the absence of a congregation.

Christians world-wide are today celebrating Easter Sunday, the biggest feast of the Catholic Church, despite that millions of people are locked at home.
