Donald Trump: US government should get a cut of Microsoft TikTok deal

US President Donald Trump has said that the government must be given a share in the US section of Tik Tok, if it is bought by an American company.

Trump said he had made this request to the head of Microsoft over the weekend, where he had demanded a substantial portion of the acquisition price.

The Tik Tok app is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, which is under pressure to sell part of the business after Trump warned it would restrict technology from China.

Trump said the Government deserved to have a large percentage of the price because it would be making this purchase possible.

This proposal is being considered controversial, and has drawn criticism from the Chinese media and from legal experts in the United States, who have expressed doubts about the legality of this action.
