Don’t hand over donations to these persons

The Commission for the Rights of the Disabled is receiving reports about certain persons who are knocking on doors and stating they are collecting funds for disabled children.

Commissioner Oliver Scicluna told TVM the Commission had been informed that between yesterday and today, Friday a number of persons, possibly foreigners, are doing the rounds in the St Paul’s Bay, Bugibba and Qawra areas.

These persons are presenting photocopy documentation and declaring they are from the National Association for Children with Disabilities, and are collecting donations.

Commissioner Scicluna clarified there is no such association, and added that when NGOs raise funds, they do not do so by going around door to door, but rather, launch a public initiative. Commissioner Scicluna appealed for anyone wishing to assist some NGO to do so through direct donations.
